National ICT Hub Awards 2008

Most Innovative Use of ICT

Winner: St Anne's Community Services

This award is for voluntary and community organisations that have used existing or emerging technologies in an innovative way, for example to deliver services, campaign on an issue or improve their organisation’s infrastructure.

St Anne's Community Services won the award for innovatively tailoring ICT to People with learning disabilities. More than 30 people across Wetherby and Leeds, some of whom have profound learning disabilities including dementia now have access to the latest technology. The impact on people’s lives has been great. Using touch screens to get a reaction; striking a clear visible blue push pad rather than clicking a fiddly mouse, spinning a large yellow roller ball to move the cursor or using a joy stick to control on screen manoeuvres has enabled users with poor hand-eye co-ordination or poor eyesight to use the computer.
