Who are Oxfam?

Oxfam works with others to overcome poverty and suffering.

How does Oxfam use ICT?

Oxfam worked with Mastercard and their creative agency, McCann Erickson, to create a viral film highlighting Oxfam Unwrapped, the alternative gift catalogue, and the alpaca package gift specifically. This was the second year of the partnership, following on from successful press ads in 2005.

The film was distributed virally to all Oxfam, Mastercard and McCann contacts, and seeded on a number of sites, including YouTube. Because the film was so strong, Oxfam and Mastercard also took the decision to put the film on TV for a period before Christmas.

No formal aims were set because the film was made very quickly - the whole project was turned around in a very short space of time. However Oxfam viewed it as a way of raising awareness of Oxfam Unwrapped and its hero gift for 2006 in a fun and appealing way, with the positive association of an established brand campaign (Mastercard's "Priceless"...) and at very minimal cost to Oxfam.

What difference has ICT made?

We have received overwhelming positive feedback from Oxfam supporters and the general public.

What was learnt?

Oxfam would recommend other organisations undertake a similar project but the more time they can plan in advance, the better - so that formal aims can be set. However, as a way of raising brand awareness and buzz this has been invaluable.
